Money
Supplement Or Groceries
Where the same forty dollars goes furthest for this particular goal, argued against our own interest.

This site is paid a commission when somebody buys the product it documents. What follows is an argument that a portion of that money is often better spent elsewhere, which is written against our own interest and is worth reading for that reason.
The Comparison
Take roughly forty-nine dollars, the per-bottle rate on the six bottle package. Here is what the same money buys against this specific goal.
| Forty-nine dollars on | What it plausibly does |
|---|---|
| One bottle of this product | One printed chromium amount, one testable taste effect, and twenty-one ingredients at undisclosed blend shares |
| A month of extra vegetables | Fibre with every meal, which is one of the most consistent levers on the post-meal curve |
| Eggs, yoghurt and nuts for breakfasts | Protein at the meal where most people eat the least of it |
| A pair of shoes you will actually walk in | Ten minutes after meals, which has better evidence than most of this category |
| A blood test through your doctor | An actual number, which no supplement can give you |
| Nothing at all, banked | A defensible option if your diet already covers the basics |
Where A Supplement Genuinely Earns Its Place
It is not never, and it is worth being fair. A supplement is a reasonable floor when the diet is genuinely narrow, when a food group has been cut out, when a stretch of life has made cooking stop, or when there is a specific plausible shortfall — and chromium status is one of the few here that can be reasoned about at all.
It also earns its place through a mechanism food cannot copy. The sweet-taste effect is not something you can eat your way to, and for somebody whose problem is the four o'clock decision rather than the composition of dinner, that is a real tool.
The Ordering This Site Would Defend
- Sleep, if it is broken
- Movement after meals, if it is absent
- Fibre and protein in the meals you already eat
- A blood test, if you have never had one
- A supplement, as a floor under the fourth
Nothing about that list is unusual or contrarian. It is simply the order that follows from the strength of the evidence, and it puts the thing we are paid to describe in fifth place.
Why Publish This
Because a page that only tells you to buy is worth nothing to a reader who is trying to decide. If the ordering above talks you out of the purchase, the page has worked correctly and you have kept your money.
Three Short Answers
Are you saying not to buy it?
No. We are saying it belongs fifth on a list of five, and that the first four are cheaper and better evidenced.
When is a supplement worth it?
When the diet is genuinely narrow, when a plausible shortfall exists, or when a mechanism like the taste effect solves the specific problem you have.
Do you make money either way?
Only if somebody buys through a link here. That is disclosed in the footer of every page and it has not changed a word of this one.
